Carl Rogers, On Becoming a Person: A Therapist's View of Psychotherapy
The person - Centred humanistic Approach to counselling was first founded by Carl Rogers in the 1940's. He believed that given the right conditions an individual will reach their full potential. Counselling aims to create and provide these right conditions by offering empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence.
This is a client led therapy, where the counsellor will help to facilitate an innate drive towards growth. Facilitating a change in attitude towards self-acceptance and self-actualisation.
